Every build starts as a drawing. These three are the ones we still keep maintenance records for.

Cloud Rest

90 cm iwagumi · private residence

The brief was 'a mountain in the living room'. Eleven seiryu stones build three receding ridges; the foreground is left empty so the water surface doubles the depth. From the sofa the tank reads twice as deep as it measures.

Tank: 90 × 45 × 45 cm low-iron
Hardscape: 11 seiryu stones, 2 driftwood branches
Plants: Dwarf hairgrass, weeping moss, hair grass lawn
Timeline: 2 weeks design, 6 weeks grow-in

Tundra

60 cm stream tank · independent bookshop

A stream tank in a bookshop courtyard. The sound is part of the design: the outlet is aimed at a stone face to make a low, continuous run of water that covers the traffic noise from the street.

Tank: 60 × 30 × 36 cm low-iron
Hardscape: Stream stone, single driftwood branch
Livestock: White cloud minnows, neocaridina shrimp
Timeline: 1 week design, 4 weeks grow-in

Rainroom

Rainforest terrarium · brand showroom

A three-sided rainforest cabinet that mists every two hours. Moss, bromeliads and ferns are layered by height, so walking around it gives you three different forests rather than one.

Cabinet: 120 × 60 × 90 cm, custom
Systems: High-pressure misting, top extraction
Planting: Epiphytic moss, bromeliads, ferns
Timeline: 3 weeks design, 8 weeks acclimation
